"Chubby" Scrapbook Layout

Wednesday 13 December 2017

I made a scrapbook page just for fun! Honestly it's been awhile since I've done that. But I had some new supplies and wanted to play around.

This is about my childhood (and present day) nickname and features a grid of vintage photos. I took photos of the originals and then converted the digital versions to black and white.

I ordered the Meaningful Crafty Girl Play Kit and wanted to play! I struggled with how to use it at first. But then realized I needed to pull some patterned paper and a few dimensional embellishments and then I could make it work!

I had this idea to create a circle of embellishments. I kind of wish I'd made the circles a tad bit bigger. But I still like how this turned out. I machine stitched the circles and then layered embellishments from the kit plus sequins and enamel shapes along the stitching.

"Thank You" Cards

Sunday 10 December 2017

I use to be a really prolific card maker. I was popping them out right and left! Then I had this huge pile of cards that was never being sent, so I slowed down a bit. But thank you cards are a different story. You always need those! Which is why I was so excited about the Thank You Stamp Set. Literally, it's the thank you set I've always wanted.

One of my favorite icons is the asterisk. I love the shape and the neutrality of it! I thought this background cut file was perfect for a few thanks you cards. I die cut it from white cardstock and then backed it with a stripped patterned paper from the Family Fun 12x12 Paper Collection.

After that I stitched around the edges. Added a flag across the bottom and my "thank you" sentiment" along with a few puffy shapes.

The "Thank You's" were stamped using Versamark ink and navy blue embossing powder. I feel like I'm always reaching for black so I wanted to mix things up a bit.

I love that there are two different large "Thank You's" included in the Stamp Set. And they're big enough to easily hand cut out the sentiment, which is what I did. So quick and simple!

"Weekend with Mama" Scrapbook Layout

I had a lot to say about this weekend with my Mama. So the journaling really became the focus of the page. But that didn't mean I couldn't have fun with the bits of design I was able to incorporate! I put together this short and sweet process video.

The decorative elements were placed along the top and bottom of the page. I used several of the journaling tags from the December 2017 Monthly Kit along with a few of the die cuts, the vellum holiday shapes and twinkle puffy stars.

For the title I mixed handwriting, the Stanley Alphabet Stamp-Solid and new Gray Cardstock Alphabet Stickers. I also added in a chipboard heart from the Hello Winter Chipboard.

"Garage" 3x8 Pocket Page Insert

Friday 10 November 2017
Slowly but surely I've been adding to my Home Mini Album. I just love this thing so much! These were super simple 3x8 inserts I included using the Love This Printables from Elle's Studio.
For the first insert, I opened up the stripped 3x4 journaling tag in PSE and then just duplicated it on a 3x8 canvas. Once it was printed, I stamped on it with the Stanley Alpha & Pure Joy stamp sets and included a few printed journaling strips.
For the second insert, I used two 3x4 journaling tags. I duplicated just the lines from the "Gotta Love This" tag and then added the pattern from the teal tag to the bottom. To embellish, I added a gray house from the Family Fun Acrylic set.

"Christmas Crowns" 6x8 Pocket Page

When I think of Christmas parties with the BCG, I think of Christmas crowns and crackers! They've slowly started gaining popularity here in the US and that makes me excited. If you're not familiar with crackers, they're these wrapped cardboard tubes that you and another person each grab an end and pull. There's a great pop! sound when they're opened. (Also, you can't bring these on planes bc they're considered a firework...) Inside are little oddities: a paper crown, a joke, a toy.
I had these photos from last year's Consulate Christmas party, where so many of us are wearing our crowns. I thought they'd be a fun embellishment for the spread and since crowns are so easy to hand cut, I pulled several of the journaling tags from the November monthly kit and hacked away with my scissors.
I loved this "hello traditions" die cut from the monthly kit. It was perfect for these photos that feature my favorite BCG Christmas party tradition, the pub quiz I'd make every year. I added a hand cut crown and puffy heart for a bit of embellishing.
To embellish the main journaling tag, I stamped using the so adorable Stanley Jr Solid Alphabet stamps. Stanley Sr has been my favorite alpha of all time and I'm so excited to have a smaller version to use! Then I added a crown and wood veneer star.
Sometimes it's fun to build a journaling card totally from scratch. I cut down some white cardstock, adhered the paper crowns, outlined a few with pen and stitched through them for some added texture. Then I stamped "Christmas" from the Document December stamp set and "Crowns" using the Stanley Jr. Alpha and to finish, stamped some dots from the Pure Joy stamp set.

"Funcle" 6x8 Pocket Page

This was the first project I created using the November 2017 monthly Elle's Studio kit and extras! Can you tell I was in a fun and playful mood? I think the kit called for it! So I picked some fun and playful photos to use with it.
My partner is just so good with kids. He's so playful and fun! Love seeing him interact with our "nieces" and "nephews". These photos were taken at our annual Christmas party, so I felt like the Christmasy products from this month's kit would fit!
From the start I knew I wanted to use the Stanley Jr. Alphabet Stamp set to stamp out his name. I thought it would be fun and a touch whimsical to use different ink colors for each letter of his name. I was also super obsessed with using the world "funcle" as the title and the red puffy alphabet stickers were perfect for this!
I embellished the spread with die cuts from the monthly kit plus a few wood veneer. I added the die cuts directly on top of the photo and page protector.

Scrap Gals Nashville Retreat

Tuesday 24 October 2017
Y'all, I kind of can't put into words how much fun I had at the Scrap Gals Retreat in Nashville just a few weeks ago. For an introvert who dreads social interactions like this, that's saying something. I had the most amazing time just sitting at my table and absorbing it all.

I did a bit of scrapbooking but not a ton. In total I created,  two 12x12 layouts, five Traveler's Notebook spreads and two 6x8 pocket page spreads.
This was the first project I made. It broke the ice! I'd packed all of the Gossamer Blue kits I'd picked up in their closing sale and wanted to put them to use. So I grabbed one I thought would work with my photo and started playing around.
I also brought all of my Traveler's Notebooks and TN kits I've been collecting, including this one from Kelly Purkey. I didn't really have much in mind when I started playing around with this photo and that kit, just started with some stamping followed up with a bit of embellishing. I borrowed a heart punch from Jen Chapin and used some of her Bella Blvd stash for my title.
I finally got around to creating the title page for Izzy's Notebook! I started working on this just before Tiffany's Selfie Class. I tinkered while I was listening to her speak. She handed out a little goodie bag with odds and ends which I quickly put to use on the page! That punched star at the top and the green, yellow and orange plaid flag both came from Tiff!
The only collection I brought with me was Shimelle's Glitter Girl collection. I wanted to make something with it so I pulled out this photo of me and Olivia. And only after I picked it out did I realize how perfect the products were for it! Like the red in my dress and the purple and pink in Oli's shorts.

Lately I'll all about these triangle corners. I feel like I'm adding them to everything. On this one I drew a few lines to add something extra.
Scrapin' in the City was the onsite shop vendor for the retreat. They had a giveaway for everyone, the 12x12 paper pack from Carta Bella. I LOVE the colors in this collection. Immediately put them to use on this spread featuring my handsome. Borrowed tiny letter stamps from Natalie Dill to complete my title. That was another fun thing about the retreat. If you didn't have something, you could borrow it from someone else!
This was a 100% just for fun layout. Tiff had suggested we bring some selfies for a project. Even though her class wasn't project based, I still wanted to use them on something. I created this page using a Gossamer Blue kit.

This is one of those pages where the design just falls out of your head. No idea how I thought to tilt those patterned paper pieces but I love the affect! Honestly, I think it happened when I cut them down and they were just laying on the background waiting for me to adhere them down.
I created this page using Jen Schow's class kit from Felicity Jane. Again, another design that fell out of my head and another of those paper triangles! Can't get enough of them.

Lately, when it comes to labels, I'm tending to use a bunch of them together to make a bigger impact. Also, the puffy heart is courtesy of Lea Rhea. She let me use her Staz-on ink which accidentally had a puffy heart stow away on it. She let me keep the heart for this page. It perfectly matched!
I worked on this spread somewhere in the middle. It combines a Kelly Purkey kit and the Fancy Pants  Dream Big Collection. It's simple but I love how it came together and how well those products pair up! I brought a lot of pocket page projects with me but not a lot of pocket page products...go figure!

And that's a wrap on projects from the Scrap Gals Nashville Retreat. Like I said, I don't think I can adequately express how much I loved attending this event. Spending time with my tribe, making new friends, laughing and chatting! Oh it was good. I'm sad it's done but so happy I was able to make it happen!

Cheers & Besos,
